
Biography
Vera first set her eyes on ballet as an energetic, eager 5-year-old, and has not stopped dancing since. She first started her CSTD journey under the tutelage of Ms Lovell Chia in Crestar. Next, under Cheng Ballet Academy, she dipped her toes in various local and international competitions (2012 American Ballet Competition - 3rd, 2013 Asian Grand Prix - Finalist, World Ballet Competition, 2014 Nihon Ballet Academy Japan Dance Competition - Semi-Finalist) and various CSTD Singapore Dance Competitions.
Continuing her education at School Of The Arts (SOTA), gave her the chance to work with many dance professionals, including Silvia Yong, Ryan Tan, Jeffrey Tan and Jacinta Walsh.
Outside of classes, Vera broadens her horizons through various workshops and intensives (Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive (2016), Matthew Bourne Workshop (2016), Stephen Petronio Company Workshop (2017). She has also participated in various CSTD Summer Schools, achieving the 2014 and 2015 Scholarship. Her exploration in the dance realm has thus led her to experiment with contemporary, jazz, tap, and latin styles.
Pursuing the joy of performing, Vera continued her contemporary training under T.H.E Second Company. Performances include Co.Lab.Asians - M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival (2019), Dance At Dusk - con.tact Contemporary Dance Festival (2022, 2023), and liTHE (2017, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023), giving her the chance to work with various choreographers - Goh Shou Yi, Isabella Giustina, Maybelle Lek, Goh Jia Yin, Nah Jieying, Fiong Thng and Kwek Yixuan.
Vera was also a member of NUS Dance Synergy, acting as the 42nd Co-Dance Mistress and Co-Community, Outreach & Engagement Head. Training under Ms Yarra Ileto and Mr Albert Tiong, she performed in NUS Arts Festivals and various collaborations. She graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology & Social Work, under the NUS Performing & Visual Arts scholarship.
Upon joining Dancepointe Academy, Vera has taught various levels and genres of dance, from the tiniest baby ballerinas to adult beginner contemporary movers. She has also choreographed Lyrical, Jazz and Contemporary items for various competitions.
As a teacher, Vera believes that every dancer has the right to confident self-expression, no matter their age or experience. She hopes to nurture a sense of curiosity in all dancers, giving them the space to explore, growing as people and as dancers.
