Biography

Leia Ang enjoyed dancing and dance making at Frontier Danceland (Singapore) from 2007 to 2010 upon graduation from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore). With the generous support from the National Arts Council (Singapore), she further pursued her dance education and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (USA) in 2012 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance with concentration in K-12 Teaching Licensure, summa cum laude.

While she was in the States during Fall and Winter 2012, she taught at the Dance Project (USA), and performed for the Cyrus Art Production (USA). She returned to Singapore after to dance for Re:Dance Theater, and taught at LASALLE College of the Arts, where her passion for dance education grew. As such, she went on to attain her Masters of Dance Studies at the University of Auckland (NZ) in 2019, where she deepened her comprehension of dance education, and was exposed to the rigour of research writing. During her stay in Auckland, she taught dance technique classes for UoA’s dance department, student recreational center, and at Victory Performance Centre (NZ).

Now based in Singapore, she continues to hone her teaching through conducting theory-based, experiential, explorative, and technique classes at LASALLE, NTU, Cedar Girls Secondary School, Awaken Generation, amongst other opportunities. Above all, she seeks creative venues to share these learning with those God places in her life.

Leia is now appointed as the Head of Contemporary Curriculum for our dACADEMY School of Contemporary Dance.
