Biography

Ms. Fang-Yu Chang was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. Fang-Yu started dancing at age five at a renowned dance academy, Xiang Xu, in Taipei. She is exposed to a wide range of dance techniques and styles, including Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Modern Dance (Martha Graham), and Eastern Dance (Taiji, Chinese Dance & Chinese Opera) at a young age. In 2015, Ms. Fang Yu enrolled in the prestigious National Arts School, Taipei National University of the Arts, coming up as a top candidate in Taiwan. She had since graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance.

 

During her time in school, she has participated in works by well-renowned choreographers, such as The Sky Seen from the Moon by Bryan Arias, Esprit de Corps & Of Any If And by Leigh Warren, Cursive by Hwai-min Lin, Great Freedom by I-fen Tung, Giselle by Chiou-o Chiang & David Krugel.

 

In 2017, Fang-yu was selected and awarded a scholarship for an exchange program at SUNY PURCHASE, New York. During the same year, she participated in the openings of the 2017 Summer Universiade. In 2019, She was invited to perform at the Korea International Dance Day with Focus Dance Company. In addition, she was a professional dancer with Hung Dance Company and has performed in the work of Ex-Batsheva Dance Company artist Mario Bermudez Gil.

 

Being a passionate dance educator with three years of professional experience teaching Classical Ballet, Contemporary, and Chinese dance at various schools and dance academies in Taiwan (Qing Shao Nian Ba Lei Wu Dao Tuan, Kuai Le Wu Dao Tuan, Sheng Xin Guo Xiao & Sheng Xin You Zhi Yuan. Fang Yu believes in open communication with her students and seeks to help each student develop greater dance skills and confidence.

 

Her achievements include:

2022
The Taipei Asia Pacific Band Association, Ballet Solo Competition, Senior Category, won 1st Prize.

2021
Choreographer for the Sacred Heart Elementary School Performing Arts Team in the New Taipei City Dance Competition and won the “Excellent” award
